BAINBRIDGE, GA-January 3, 2013-Today, after the deadline for financial disclosures in the Special Election for State Senate had passed, Dean Burke holds a commanding lead over the six-candidate field with total funds raised and most cash on hand. This does not include any loans from the candidate.

“Not having spent my professional career running for office, I had no idea what to expect for fundraising,” said Burke. “We have been truly humbled and overwhelmed by the support we’ve received in such a short amount of time. Campaigns are expensive. Thanks to the generous support of friends, family, colleagues, and dozens of supporters across the district, some of whom I’ve only recently met, our campaign is in strong financial shape.”

By the numbers:

  • Dean has raised $83,203 to date and has $28,960.62 cash on hand remaining. All expenses are paid.
  • Dean’s closest competitor has raised $27,960 and has $18,191 cash on hand. This includes a $5,000 loan from the candidate and does not account for several thousand dollars of unpaid expenses.
  • Dean is the only candidate to have raised funds from all eight counties.
  • Dean’s campaign has over 100 individual contributors; more than five times that of his nearest competitor.
  • 95% of Dean’s contributions came from within the district.

By comparing these reports, Dean Burke’s support is unmatched across the district among farmers, healthcare professionals and business owners. The fact that all this was accomplished in about two weeks speaks volumes to the grassroots organization of a first-time campaign.
