SB 273 – Maternal mortality review committee
Requires the Department of Public Health to establish a committee to review maternal deaths. Georgia currently leads the nation in maternal deaths, having risen from an average of 20.5 deaths per 100,000 live births in the period 2001-2006 to 35 in 2011.

SB 290 – Responsible dog ownership

Gives the owner of a dog designated as dangerous the right to request a hearing on the designation from the probate court if there is no local board of health or animal control board.


SB 342 – HIV status disclosure to primary care providers

Authorizes the Department of Public Health to share information with an HIV-positive patient’s primary physician, for example, if the patient is currently not taking viral suppressants.
